Archetypes for a Journey At the beginning of each in situ visit, we gather together the residency team and ARRC to engage in a unique self-assessing method which utilises the framework tool called RESHAPE – A Tarot Deck to Reshape the Arts, developed within the Creative Europe programme (2018–2020).
Guided by a shared question, the tarot reading becomes a space for attentive listening and deep exchange. Through its archetypes, participants reflect on who they are, what resources they carry, what fears or uncertainties accompany them, and what they hope to shape together. The cards do not predict; they reveal.
Beyond reflection, the process activates a series of small, practical rituals to be sustained over time by each residency team. Archetypes for a Journey fosters self-knowledge and mutual recognition, making visible the subtle tensions and transformative possibilities embedded in each rural context. In every place, the archetypes become companions for the journey—helping to identify shared ground from which new forms of collaboration and imagination may emerge. Each collective reading generates a site-specific constellation of text, image and sound, unique to its residency.
